When you live in L.A., you know that if you want to experience Fall, you need to venture out to some nearby places around Westwood. Once you do, you'll find an array of things to do that will satisfy people of all ages. In fact, there are plenty of festivals and other activities to be enjoyed. If you're ready to leave summer behind and enjoy all that autumn has to offer, here are some fun activities to enjoy around Westwood.
Apple Picking
Let's face it, nothing says Fall more than picking apples. If you agree, you'll have plenty of chances to enjoy this activity in and around Westwood. For starters, take a day trip to nearby Oak Glen. When you arrive, do some apple picking at Los Rios Rancho. After you're finished gathering your apples, you'll have worked up quite an appetite. To fill your stomach and reward yourself for all your hard work, head to Snow-Line Orchard to sample their delicious mini-cider donuts. Finally, visit Oak Mountain, where you can walk around on 14 acres and enjoy the petting zoo, pony rides, and shopping in bakeries and other unique businesses.
Oktoberfest at Big Bear Lake
If you don't mind leaving your furnished apartments in Los Angeles and driving about two hours to beautiful Big Bear Lake, you can join thousands of other folks and have fun at the annual Oktoberfest festival. Held every weekend through November 5th as well as on Fridays in October, Oktoberfest has been an annual tradition in the area for over 50 years. Featuring authentic German polka bands and plenty of brats on the grill, you'll also be able to sample more types of German beer than you ever realized existed. Once you find yourself surrounded by pine trees at an elevation of nearly 7,000 feet, you'll feel as if you are in another world.
Farmers Market Fall Festival
Scheduled for October 22-23, the Farmers Market Fall Festival is essentially a country fair held in the heart of Los Angeles and near Wilshire Margot. Once you arrive, you'll find lots of great food to sample and buy, beautiful arts and crafts, live music, games that all have an autumn theme, and, of course, the very popular pig races. But before you leave, don't forget to take a stroll through the pumpkin patch, where you are sure to find the perfect pumpkin to be your Halloween jack o' lantern.
Autumn Festival at Aquarium of the Pacific
Finally, if you want something a bit different, take an excursion from your Westwood apartments and attend the Autumn Festival at Aquarium of the Pacific. Held November 12-13, this festival celebrates everything about Asian culture. You'll be able to enjoy Asian arts and crafts, cuisine, musical and dance performances, and, of course, enjoy the various sea creatures that are always on display. If this sounds good to you, keep in mind that the cost of attending the festival will be included as part of the general admission price to the aquarium.
With so much to do in and around your Los Angeles apartment, you'll have a busy October and November ahead of you. Whether you are enjoying an Oktoberfest celebration, picking out a pumpkin, or even rooting for your favorite pig to win a race, you're sure to have lots of fun.
